Como Modified competitors prepare for series finale at Ashland

The Como Modified Series presented by Lake Country Chevy Dealers recently visited the Superior Speedway in Superior, WI for race seven on the eight race schedule. Although series regular Jayme Lautigar led early and often, it was Kelly Estey ultimately hoisting the hardware in grand fashion. The Kelly Lake, Mn native held off a late charge from Craig Thatcher to pick up his second series win of the season. 2006 series champion Darrell Nelson rallied from his row four starting position to finish fourth behind Estey, Thatcher and Lautigar. Osceola, WI driver Jason Miller finished fifth in the 30-lap affair. The XR Premium Racing Apparrel Dash was dominated by Dave Cain.

Heading into this weekend’s season finale at the ABC Raceway in Ashland, WI, Estey currently holds a 10-point lead over Knapp, WI pilot Thatcher. Darrell Nelson currently sits in the third spot a mere 12 markers behind Estey. Rick Kobs holds a one point advantage over Jeff Wood for the fourth spot as the series shifts to Ashland for the Speedway’s Annual Red Clay Classis. On August 1st the series made it’s first appearance of the season at Ashland where Craig Thatcher picked up the victory after a race long battle with Dave Cain.

Last year 59 ready combatants checked in for battle at the Red Clay Classic with Forest Lake, Mn racer Joey Jensen picking up the win. Will Thatcher overcome the ten point deficit to join Estey, Nelson, and Al Uotinen as the fourth series champion in four years?   1. Well it was a fun series to watch although I think they should have tried to get it in at the Proctor fest instead of just declaring a winner. Unless there was no other race to maybe try and get it in which probably would have gave Proctor a better turn out as well, enough I am sure it was a bit brisk
