This event features a $2000 winner’s payday and should be a great starting point for the ’11 series as many Northern, Southern, East, West and Central drivers are expected to be in attendance for a shot at the series title. Series founder Joe Stariha commented ‘After running our inaugural race at Ogilvie Raceway last year, it took me about 20 minutes after the race to walk up to Nate Fischer, the promoter at Ogilvie, and say let’s do two races next year.  It’s a premier racing facility and we are very excited to bring two races there this year, not to mention the nightly purse at those two races is unheard of for weekday WISSOTA racing.’
 
The series will then shift northward to the Hibbing Raceway in Hibbing, MN for a $1500 to win event on Wednesday, June 15th, before back to back $1500 to win events at the ABC Raceway in Ashland, WI on Tuesday, June 28th and the Proctor Speedway on Wednesday, June 29th prior to the fourth of July holiday weekend.
 
The lone event in July will take place at the newly named AMSOIL Speedway in Superior, WI as this $1500 to win event will be held at the recently re-WISSOTA-sanctioned facility at the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds in Superior.
 
August will see a whopping $2500 to win event as the series makes its second visit to the Ogilvie Raceway on Wednesday, August 3rd for the second annual Minnesota Modified Hall of Fame night, where several Modified stand outs from the past or present will join 2010 inductees Mark Noble and Ron Jones in the MN Hall of Fame.
 
September – the ‘month of money’ – for the Como Mod Series presented by Subway drivers kicks off at the annual Silver 1000 in Proctor on Thursday, September 1st before heading to the Hibbing Raceway on the first day of the Labor Day Shootout. The Northern Nationals at the AMSOIL Speedway in Superior is next on the list on Saturday, September 10th before the series wraps up at the Red Clay Classic at the ABC Raceway in Ashland on Friday and Saturday, September 30th and October 1st.
 
The 2011 champion will once again take home a whopping $10,000 paycheck with the top 15 drivers in the final series point standings taking home at least $1,500. The 2011 series Rookie of the Year will again pick up a $500 paycheck as this year’s point fund once again tops $54,000!
 
Several exciting changes are on tap for the Como Mod Series presented by Subway in 2011 including the expansion of the schedule to a ten-race format for the first time ever. Drivers will hit up two events at each of the five tracks on the schedule for this season, but will be allowed to throw out their worst points showing of the series, leading up to the Red Clay Classic and have that event not counted in their final points tally come season’s end. Again, Stariha said ‘We have been talking about a throw out show for a couple of years now.  Basically, every driver will be able to throw out 1 of their first 9 races.  This allows a driver who had a bad night a chance to throw out that race and put it behind them.  I feel that this will also keep out of town travelers coming.  In the past if a traveler did bad one race they quit coming because they felt they were out of the points, now they can just throw that race out.  In the end our 10th race at the Red Clay Classic in Ashland, everyone will have thrown one show out already and everyone will be racing for the points championship that weekend.’
 
Delaware double file restarts have been implemented for all races at events, no matter how many laps are remaining in the contest. There will never be single file restarts (unless track conditions dictate it) on this year’s Como Mod Series presented by Subway.
 
Another addition to this year’s Como Mod Series presented by Subway is that veteran announcer/promoter/race director Chris Stepan has been added to the cast of series officials and will serve as the Series Director for 2011 and beyond. Stepan will ensure that all events are run under the exact same policies, procedures are rules from track to track so that things are kept consistent for drivers and fans from May through October. Stariha said of the addition ‘Chris and I have been discussing him coming on board as Race Director for a couple years now.  With all the money that is out there for the drivers I want somebody that can give 100% attention to the races, be sure things run smoothly and as fair as possible and make calls as needed.  This addition will enhance our program tremendously!’
 
Subway restaurants is back for the second consecutive season as the presenting sponsor of the Como Mod Series, along with Domino’s Pizza and Rick Gondik Law Offices being on board as victory lane sponsors for the 2011 series. Fox 21 is once again partnering with the Como Mod Series presented by Subway as a great media partner to ensure that fans across the Northland have all of the current and up to date Como Mod Series news as it happens throughout the season. ‘Our sponsors of this series have been just tremendous over the years.  It’s the only reason we have been able to make this incredible purse available to the drivers.  Subway is back on board for a second year as the presenting sponsor.  Rick Gondik Law Offices is on board for a fifth straight year as a Victory Lane Sponsor.  Domino’s Pizza also has come on board this year as a Victory Lane sponsor.   We have so many great sponsors of this series that sponsor our nightly shows to make this $54,000 payout work.  It’s great for everyone involved!’ Stariha noted.
